THEBACHA/FORT SMITH - The Town of Fort Smith has fired its long-time town manager.

Roy Scott was terminated as the town's senior administrative officer at a special in-camera meeting of council on May 1, with the firing being effective at the close of business that day.

Scott had held the position for 16 years. The town has released no details as to why Scott was dismissed.

Only a two-paragraph news release on May 1 announced the firing.

"Mayor and council take the position that the matter is now concluded and no further statements will be forthcoming at this time," the news release stated.

Scott had been suspended with pay on March 26.

When contacted by News/North, Mayor Peter Martselos was tight-lipped about the dismissal.

"The matter is confidential right now and I cannot make any further comment," Martselos said.

Attempts to reach Scott for comment were unsuccessful. Currently, Glen McLean is acting senior administrative officer for the town.

McLean said the process of permanently filling the position will be addressed by council at a later date.
