Second charged in porn bust
Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Monday, March 30, 2009
This is the second resident of the territory to be charged in relation to Project Salvo, which police are calling the largest Internet-facilitated child sexual abuse investigation in Canada. The RCMP will not release the names, gender or home community of either individual. "It's not appropriate for us to comment exactly on the details of the investigation at this time," said Yellowknife-based RCMP Sgt. Wayne Norris. "Due to the nature of the investigation, we're not going to reveal how many (suspects) we're looking at. We're providing the information to the public when someone is charged. At this point in time there are two." Norris said no children are believed to be in danger in the NWT. He cautioned the public to be careful of information disclosed on the Internet, especially involving young people. "At this point in time I know there were 50-some arrests (across Canada) as of late last week during the national press conference," Norris said of Project Salvo. The second NWT individual charged has been released from custody and has a court date for September 2009, as does the first person charged. The first person was charged last week with possession of child pornography and making child pornography available to others. The multi-agency police investigation included the co-operation of 35 various agencies and detachments, including the use of Northern Alberta's Integrated Internet Child Exploitation Unit. |
