Cheap books by the box full
By Daron Letts Northern News Services Published Wednesday, April 15, 2009
Volunteers with the Friends of the Yellowknife Public Library will unpack the literary treasures tomorrow morning to prepare for the early bird sale in the library meeting room, which opens to the public from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The book sale continues on Friday from noon until 8 p.m. then on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and again on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. "The sale runs on free-will donations on Friday, Saturday and Sunday," said volunteer coordinator Tanya Kruger. "People are welcome to take as many books as they want and donate as much as they can afford." Students in all grades will receive a coupon redeemable for one free book Friday through Saturday. There is a diverse collection to choose from. Every library sale is different, and this one offers an exceptional assortment of titles relating to Northern nonfiction, new Canadian fiction and contemporary Canadiana. Children's books, classic literature, recent popular fiction, unique cookbooks and oversize art books are also well represented. "There is lots of new stuff," Kruger said, adding that many of the books are just a year or two old. Volunteers are needed at 4 p.m. on Sunday to help dismantle the book sale and deliver the remaining stock to interested community organizations and institutions. |
