Talent show brings out the best

Held in the Explorer Hotel's Katimavik rooms on March 27, the popular event sold out quickly. Almost 40 contestants vied for top honours in the fields of singing, fiddling and jigging.
"People came from all over the North," said Joe Lemouel, executive director of the Tree of Peace Friendship Centre. "It's always a good time." The six judges represented the territory's various regions. Yellowknife band the Tone Rangers supplied the music. The band is composed of fiddler and bassist Gus Miltenberger, guitarist Ted Miltenberger and drummer Norbert Poitras. Below is a list of this year's winning competitors. Singing competition winners Fiddling competition winners Jigging competition winners (Ages 60 and older) The Eugene Mercredi Memorial Award for best stage presentation went to Myra Delorme-Conrad. The Peter Fraser Memorial Award for the eldest competitor went to 98-year-old Morris Lockhart. |
