Drugs seized on Hay River Reserve
Paul Bickford Northern News Services Published Monday, March 16, 2009
On March 5, police seized crack cocaine and cash, as well as a small amount of marijuana. Const. Murray Gordon of the Hay River RCMP said 15 grams of crack cocaine were seized, along with $3,000 in cash. The drugs have a street value of approximately $4,000. Two men from Edmonton and one young woman from Hay River have been charged in connection with the seizure. Dustin Fiddler, 22, has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of obstructing a peace officer. The obstruction charge was laid because Fiddler has been accused of providing a false name to police. Nick Kyriacou, 18, has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking. The female, who cannot be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with a single count of possession for the purpose of trafficking. All three are scheduled to appear in Hay River Territorial Court on May 12. Gordon said the drug seizure took place at a house on the reserve as a result of information provided by the public. None of the accused lives at the residence. The residents of the house were not at home at the time of the drug seizure. "Essentially, they had no involvement in trafficking," Gordon said of the people who live in the home. |
