SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - The RCMP arrested a number of people in Yellowknife last month in connection to trafficking crack cocaine. The arrests resulted in four men being charged with possession and trafficking offences.

"The investigation is still ongoing," said RCMP Sgt. Wayne Norris.

"For that reason we don't want to say how many were arrested."

The arrests didn't take place all at once but suspects were arrested primary on Jan. 17 and 18, said Norris.

The suspects charged thus far are Lance Chobotar, 31 and Daniel Robinson, 25, of Edmonton as well as Peter Smith, 43 and Darcy Hugh Arden, 39, of Yellowknife. The next court appearance for all four is scheduled for March 17.

The investigation began in January, which led to a search of a vehicle. The search resulted in the seizure of 175 individual doses of crack cocaine and thousands of dollars in cash, according to police.

"Any amount of crack cocaine off our streets in Yellowknife is a big thing to us," said Norris.
