Fort McMurray riders to make fundraising journey
Paul Bickford Northern News Services Published Monday, January 26, 2009
The riders, along with three friends in trucks, will drive the winter road between the two communities to raise money for the Centre of Hope, a facility for the homeless which offers daytime services. According to Ken Krahn, one of the riders, the group will leave Fort McMurray on Jan. 29 and arrive in Fort Smith on the same day. They hope to raise $25,000 through sponsors. This is the third year the group - with some changes in members - has made the journey. In 2007, they raised $13,000 and $17,000 last year. "It also helps to raise awareness of the Centre of Hope," Krahn said. The journey was changed to January this year from February in the hopes that it might be a bit warmer. "We'll take what we get," Krahn said. They will be returning to Fort McMurray in their trucks on Jan. 31. They only have a permit for a one-way quad ride through Wood Buffalo National Park. |
