Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Wednesday, January 21, 2009
"She is in stable condition at Stanton Territorial Hospital," RCMP Const. Kathy Law said Monday. A woman entered the elderly woman's home uninvited and the assault occurred when she was asked to leave. "They were not known to each other," said Law. Alice Nitsiza, 43, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of failure to comply with a probation order. A press release from the RCMP stated Nitsiza is known to police. Law said Nitsiza was arrested on Saturday. During her court appearance Monday morning, Crown prosecutor Danielle Zaillancourt said the elder was disfigured in the attack. The maximum sentence for aggravated assault according to the Criminal Code of Canada is 14 years in prison. |
