SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - RCMP seized 170 grams of cocaine and arrested a man accused of possessing the drug as he exited a Greyhound bus coming from Calgary on Nov. 19.

Cory Stovin, 24, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

RCMP Sgt. Wayne Norris said he could not confirm whether Stovin, originally from British Columbia, was residing in Yellowknife.

The 170 grams of cocaine equates to 1,700 dosages.

The police responded to a tip from the public in making the arrest.

"It was information we received and obviously we were able to act on it," said Norris.

G Division Drug Section, Organized Crime Unit and Traffic Services were all part of the arrest.

"The drug trade is lucrative," said Norris. "If there is a profit to be made, the drug trade will continue in Yellowknife."

Norris described the drug trade as a "detriment to the community" and stressed the need for the public to continue to work with police and provide information that may be helpful in investigations.

Stovin is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 13.
