Bloggers of the North unite
By Daron Letts Northern News Services Published Tuesday, December 23, 2008
Judges are accepting nominations in a variety of categories until midnight.
The Best NWT Blog Awards will award honours for best blog, best post, best new blog, best photography and best series of posts. To be eligible, a blog must be about the NWT or written by a NWT resident. The NWT blog awards were inspired by the Nunies, the Eastern Arctic's blog awards organized by Clare Kines in Arctic Bay. "I established (the Best NWT Blog awards) after some discussion with other NWT bloggers," wrote NWT awards co-ordinator Megan Holsapple during an e-mail interview with EP this week. "We wanted to recognize the great blogs we read every day ... I want this contest to honour the undiscovered gems of the NWT blogosphere." Holsapple is the author of Reflections in the Snow-Covered Hills, a blog dedicated to personal musings on life and society, media criticism and television star David Hasselhoff. Holsapple hatched the idea for the Best NWT Blog awards through conversations about online organizing with fellow blogger Amy Hacala. Hacala maintains the site nwtblogs.com, a catalog of blogs and blog activity in the territory. The site features content and links to about 14 blogs from around the territory. John Mutford's popular literary blog, Book Mine Set, is being linked to the site this week. Hacala authors two of her own blogs, including a personal blog called Hacala.ca. "Initially it started as a way to keep in touch with family in the south," she said. "It morphed into something else. A lot of it is about my kids and whatever crosses my mind or bugs me or irritates me." Hacala also hosts a blog with posts from the perspective of her bull dog, Stella. |
