HAY RIVER - Charges have been laid against a Hay River man in connection with a Nov. 29 accident involving a pickup truck and an RCMP vehicle.

The man has been charged with three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm and one count of operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

According to information from the RCMP at the time of the accident, two officers were returning to Hay River with a male passenger after responding to a complaint on the Hay River Reserve when the crash occurred at about 2 a.m. in front of Homesteaders Inn on Highway 2.

Police said a pickup truck turned into the path of the police vehicle. The collision caused the police vehicle to roll once onto a service road.

The impact crushed the pickup's left side and knocked off a wheel.

The officers and their passenger suffered minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the Hay River RCMP have also laid charges in an unrelated vehicle accident on Dec. 14.

According to police, they received a complaint at 8:50 p.m. of a motor vehicle accident involving a small car and a moving van on the Mackenzie Highway near the airport.

Just after the initial collision, a third vehicle rear-ended the car involved in the original accident.

Police say their investigation showed alcohol was a contributing factor to the second collision. Another Hay River man has been charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
