Plane misses runway
Carolyn Sloan Northern News Services Published Monday, December 15, 2008
On Dec. 13 a Summit Air plane was descending into the airport but landed short of the runway by about a mile and a half. The plane was on route from Resolute Bay to Yellowknife with Cambridge Bay as its scheduled fuel stop. "We don't know (why) at this point," said Steve Tamton, flight operations manager and part owner of Summit Air. "It's being investigated by Transportation Safety Board and ourselves." Fortunately, all 12 passengers and two crew members aboard the flight were uninjured with the exception of a few minor scrapes. "We were very lucky in the end," said Tamton. He added his thanks to the community and its residences, particularly the nursing station and car station for helping to get passengers safely away from the aircraft and into town. "They did a fantastic job," he added. |
