Silas Ammaklak previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Susan Natar. He attacked her in a drunken rage on Sept. 17, 2003, and she died from her injuries five days later. Ammaklak has spent the past five years in remand at the Baffin Correctional Centre, and as such was credited with 100 months of time served.
