Mike Pickles, founder and owner of Educate & Motivate Seminars, is currently the Nunavut Teacher's Education Program instructor in Rankin. He has had one of his stories published in a book entitled The Path to Success.
Pickles will sign a copy of each book purchased on Saturday and everyone who drops by - whether they purchase a book or not - will be eligible to enter a draw for a free signed copy at the end of the session. The book is a collaborative effort featuring such well-known authors as Wayne Dyer, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen of Chicken Soup for the Soul fame. Best-selling author Sandy Forster put the book project together. Pickles said when he found about the project, he made contact with some of the authors featured in the book. They got back to him and asked if he'd pen a story to submit. If they liked it, they'd include it in the book. "Turns out they did like it and the next thing I knew I was having my story published in this book," said Pickles. "As part of the publishing fee, they gave me 200 copies of the book, so I'm very much looking forward to having this book-signing event in Rankin." The story Pickles penned evolved from his time teaching in Africa. He said the piece shows how some cultures are richer in some ways, but much poorer in others. "My work is a kind of a motivational or inspirational story about how North Americans tend to be materialistically rich, but spiritually poor. "It's just the opposite in Africa. Materialistically speaking, they have nothing, but they're very strong spiritually. "That's kind of the gist of my story: we shouldn't be so focused on accumulating material possessions in North America and always being so compelled to compete and keep up with the Joneses." |
