Gut hosts smorgasbord of sound

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Amanda Dei supports the local live music scene and her fellow musicians by playing a song or two at nearly every open mic that pops up around town. On Friday she and her band Love Gut will host their own jam at After 8 Billiards. "We want lots of musicians to come out," she said. Dei is backed by guitarist Darin Woodbury, drummer Rodger Nendsa and bassist Matt Outhwaite. Her band delivers loud and energetic rock spiced with a pinch of punk and a dash of soul. "If people want to check out a band that's going to rock n' roll for a good hour and maybe blow their faces off then we're definitely the ones to come and see," Woodbury said. Since forming a year ago, these musicians have assembled a set of a dozen original songs garnished with a few unique covers. "Most of what we do is an original project," Woodbury said. "They're just good, hard-rock, nasty kind of songs with an edge to them." Love Gut rocked last year's Snow Castle and played the Top Knight with The Skinnys and Funk 69 over the winter. They donated a performance to last year's Sunshine fundraiser to help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. "We're very much looking forward to doing it again," Dei said. Love Gut's jam kicks off at 9 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday they offer a second helping of music with another performance at After 8 starting at 9 p.m. |
