SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A Fort McPherson man has been sent to jail for to six months, a sentence which reflects his long history of crimes against the administration of justice, Judge Robert Gorin said last week.

Dennis Francis pleaded guilty to all charges against him, including a breach of undertaking and escaping a police officer during an arrest.

The escape stemmed from a Dec. 15 incident in which RCMP found Francis at a residence where his presence was prohibited.

"The accused was intoxicated," stated Crown attorney Glen Boyd.

He sprayed nachos on the (officer) as he spoke."

When the officer attempted to execute the arrest and made his handcuffs visible, added Boyd, Francis ran away.

He was later seen "running wildly through the streets," said Boyd.

"What concerns me is the three-and-a-half-page record," said Gorin, noting that on it were 17 convictions.

"He's just not getting the message," said Gorin.

He opted to give Francis six months in jail.
