HAY RIVER - The man accused of killing a Hay River Mountie will face a judge and jury trial in the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories.

Emrah Bulatci appeared in Yellowknife territorial court Thursday for a preliminary inquiry into three counts of obstructing justice for events occurring while he was behind bars last fall.

Bulatci is also charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 6, 2007, shooting death of Const. Christopher Worden.

Crown and defence lawyers will appear in front of a scheduling judge on Dec. 12 to determine a trial date for the obstruction charges, said crown attorney Christine Gagnon. It has yet to be decided when Bulatci's trial date for the murder charges will be. "Whether or not the matter will be dealt with at the same time or before or after ... right now we don't know," Gagnon said.

A publication ban was placed on the hearing.
