HAY RIVER - Police have confirmed the accidental drowning in Hay River of Iain Richardson, 42, of Eureka, Alta.

Richardson was working as a fisherman at the town's Fishermen's Wharf.

He was found dead in the water in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 23.

"They haven't done the toxicology (screening)," said RCMP Cpl. Ron Prangnell. "That's why we haven't determined if drugs or alcohol were in his system."

Prangnell said that the investigation has basically concluded, but police are awaiting the final results of the autopsy report. Richardson's body was flown to Edmonton for the autopsy and a funeral was held for him on Thursday in Eureka.

Richardson's body was discovered by another fisherman, but Prangnell could not confirm if he had been living at the Wharf.
