INUVIK - Young participants of the Inuvik Day Camp were able to see what it's like to spend a night in the Lions Den.

No, they weren't on a safari in the jungle. The group was at Boot Lake for an evening of fun and games.

The Inuvik Lions Club donated the space in their clubhouse to the day camp for the second night this season.

Day camp co-ordinator Kenzie MacDonald said the Lions Den was happy to give the space.

"They were happy to help, they only asked that we keep it clean," he said.

The groups of 10-12 year-old campers stayed at the 'Den on Friday night, returning on Saturday afternoon.

MacDonald said the group was well-behaved and really wanted to focus on the fun at hand.

"They had a great time, it was one of the highlights of the camp," he said.

MacDonald said the campers had already spent a night at the den earlier last month.

"It's a special event," he said.

He added that for the next year, the counsellors are planning one big night to spend at the Boot Lake location.

"We're thinking about making it a one time big deal," he said.

Even though the work is seasonal, MacDonald plans to return to the post next summer when he returns from school.

Dwayne Drescher was one of the counsellors who was on duty for the night out.

Drescher said the night went off without a hitch and he was happy the kids had a good time, too.

"Everyone was well-behaved and they looked like they were having a great time," he said.

Drescher added most of the kids were interested in playing video games.

"We also put on some movies."

There were even a few youth who wanted to stay out at the playground and keep playing outdoors.

"We played at the playground for as long as we could, but we had to come back in due to the weather," Drescher said.

    "It was pretty icky out."

Guitar Hero saved the night when rain kept the campers indoors.

"I think the video games were the most popular," said Drescher.

    Camper Deklen Wannamaker agreed.

"It was really fun," he said, adding that he is looking forward to the next time campers get to spend a night playing games.
