Police Briefs 11-year-old assaulted Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Friday, July 18, 2008
On Wednesday, July 9, RCMP arrived at Norseman Apartments at around 10:30 p.m., after receiving a report of a disturbance there. Police found a man leaving the building. He was identified by witnesses as having assaulted the girl. The girl and another adult woman told police that the man had been drinking and started yelling and elbowing the girl in the face. "They are certainly known to each other, but I don't know in what capacity," said RCMP Const. Roxanne Dreilich of the relationship between the girl and the alleged assailant. The man was arrested and taken into custody. He was later released under the condition that he not have any contact with the girl. Woman attacked outside her home An early morning assault took place outside Sissons Court on Saturday, July 12. A 19-year-old woman reported being assaulted outside her home by a 23-year-old woman at 5:45 a.m. The assailant reportedly fled the area by foot before RCMP arrived. Police later located the woman and arrested her without incident. "I don't believe that there was any sort of visible or significant injuries. There was certainly no medical intervention," Dreilich said of the 19-year-old woman's injuries. Man accused of drinking and driving doesn't get far An anonymous caller told RCMP that an intoxicated man was getting into a vehicle on 50 Street at around 9:50 p.m., July 7. Municipal enforcement officers located the accused on Franklin Avenue, not far from the Gold Range Hotel. The RCMP arrived and charged a 50-year-old Yellowknife man with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
