IQALUIT - Peter Autut was born in the Kivalliq but after spending several years in Western Canada, the love of the North drew him back, this time to Iqaluit.

"I just love the way of life up here," said Autut. "The people up here are awesome."

Autut is a pharmacy technician. He was drawn into the field because of his background as an interpreter.

He has only been interpreting in pharmacy for a short while, but he said it has been great so far, and the best part is interpreting for the elders.

Returning to the North has also meant that Autut has gotten re-acquainted with his love of traditional foods, including a particular fondness for caribou.

Autut also can't get enough of the endless days.

"It's got one of the best springtimes in the world. You get the sunlight, the midnight sun. It's awesome," he said.

To make the most of the long days, Autut tries to get out on the land, something he's been doing a lot more since moving back North, and he also enjoys hiking. He added that it's better during the summer since there is no rush to return home because of fading daylight.

Autut also makes the most out of the days as a runner, a hobby he's had for a few years. Autut acknowledged that it's not easy work, but well worth the effort.

"Right now it's something I do for the health benefits," said Autut.

As for his best time, Autut said, "I can't remember, but it's OK."

He has lost count of the number of races he has completed, but he has done a few in Alberta and several in the Kivalliq.

With regard to family, Autut said, "Hi to my dad in Chesterfield Inlet - I hope you're doing good."
