INUVIK - Preparations are nearly complete for the annual oil and gas trade extravaganza taking place June 11 to 12.

The Inuvik Petroleum Show plays host to a large number of visitors who meet to talk shop.

Town of Inuvik convention manager Dave Rogers said the event is nearly ready for registration night on Tuesday.

Rogers said through good planning, his team is able to stay ahead of the rush of the final tasks at hand.

"We're doing good, I'd say we're ahead of the schedule a bit," he said.

"We had a bit of a scare with the late road, but the things we need are rolling into town."

Rogers said some of the delegates for the conference are already in town, preparing for the event.

"We're looking at 316 delegates at the show this year," said Rogers.

He added that along with the high number of delegates, all the exhibitor booths are sold as well.

"We're looking at a really busy conference this year and a busy exhibition as well," he said.

Rogers said it's hard to compare this year with the previous because of last-minute registrations.

"We get a lot of people who come late or at the last minute for registration," he said.

"I would suggest at least as good as last year."

Tuesday night is the ever-popular barbecue meet and greet at the Lion's Den at Boot Lake.

"We're all looking forward to that," he said.

Rogers added the headlining entertainer Rick Mercer will perform on both Wednesday and Thursday nights at the conference.

Rogers said he hopes to have public tickets available on the second night of the event.

"Right now, we're selling tickets to the delegates," he said.

"The easiest way to see Rick Mercer is to volunteer and help me.

We always need volunteers every year."

With the site now set up and ready for the influx of visitors, Rogers is overseeing the final stages of preparation before the big opening day.
