Mike Yorston - poker-playing bush pilot.

Mike Yorston, a pilot for Air Tindi with a love for hunting, fishing and car races, won after a marathon contest that ended with him edging his nearest competitor, Gary Burt, by a single vote.

The pair exchanged leads several times up until the Wednesday 5 p.m. deadline.

Votes for Burt were still coming in during the dying minutes but Yorston maintained his lead with 161 votes over 160 cast for Burt.

Readers cast a total of 521 votes for the six nominees in the contest. Yorston was busy flying at press time and could not be reached for comment.

His win earns him a $200 gift certificate towards dinner at The Office dining lounge plus another $200 towards his favourite charitable cause, Ducks Unlimited.

Yellowknifer would like to thank all those who submitted nominations for the contest, as well as voters and nominees for participating.

A big cheer for Mike Yorston, Yellowknifer's Manliest Man.
