YELLOWKNIFE - The biological father of a 16-year-old girl has been charged after a man assaulted the girl and her adoptive father, police say.

RCMP Const. Roxanne Dreilich said the 37-year-old assailant had broken into a Lanky Court residence at around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 6, and then assaulted both the girl and the 61-year-old adoptive father.

She said the man fled the scene after the assault but later phoned back and uttered threats.

"He threatened the other man's safety," Dreilich said.

The suspect was later found at a Sissons Court residence and arrested without incident. He faces charges of two counts of assault, one count of mischief and one count of uttering threats.

He was released with an order to stay away from the victims and their residence and given a court date in February.

Accused with mystery injuries

A 40-year-old man is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm after a 32-year-old woman reported that she was assaulted by her boyfriend last Thursday.

She sustained injuries to her face and was later taken to the hospital for treatment. Police were able to locate the man in a residence adjacent to the victim's home on the Dettah road.

According to Dreilich, the man was discovered with several injuries to his face, hands, chest and foot when he was taken into custody, which he said were inflicted by the woman.

The man is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm. Police are still investigating the cause of his injuries.

Home invasion cut short

The residents of a home in the Range Lake area called the police after two men kicked down their front door and entered their home.

Dreilich said the suspects were told to get out by the victims during the incident, which occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Jan. 3 but that was the extent of the confrontation.

She said the men then fled the area in a vehicle driven by a third man.

The victims were able to provide a description of the men and the vehicle, and the police were able to locate the assailants and arrest them.

"Two of the men were in the vehicle when it was found and one was in a residence adjacent to the vehicle," Dreilich said.

A variety of charges are pending against the three men.
