Simailak was minister of Finance, Economic Development and Transportation. He had served on cabinet since March 2004.

He has recently been embroiled in controversy over million dollar Nunavut Business Credit Corporation loans to companies in which he has an interest, as well as general mismanagement of the Credit Corp. He will stay on as MLA for Baker Lake.

Patterk Netser is taking over the Economic Development and Transportation portfolios.

Louis Tapardjuk will assume control of Finance in addition to his duties as minister of Culture, Language, Elders and Youth.

Olayuk Akesuk becomes minister of Environment in place of Netser.
