YELLOWKNIFE - A 38-year-old woman has been charged with assault with a weapon after a resident of the Gold Range Hotel was stabbed in the face Tuesday.

Police responded after a witness reported seeing a man with a puncture wound under his right eye.

Police arrived at around 5:15 p.m. to find the victim, a 36-year-old male, being taken care of by ambulance attendants. The man was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital for treatment of the stab wound. His current status is unknown.

Police spoke with the witness, who reported that they had seen the man exit his room at the Gold Range and ask for help, saying that his girlfriend had just stabbed him. Police located the woman in the room and arrest her without incident.

The woman was held in custody Tuesday night and released Wednesday under the conditions to not have any contact with the victim. A court date has been set for January.

RCMP did not state what kind of weapon the woman had used.
