SPENCE BAY - Laughter isn't an ingredient, but it still factors into cooking in Taloyoak.

Using a recipe from a local hotel, six participants in a pre- and post-natal cooking class

are enjoying preparing dough suitable for pizza pockets, buns, bread, cinnamon buns and knots. "They had a course like this seven years ago that lasted for three years. It was time we started up again in January 2007," said Lena Pauloosie, who co-ordinates a four-week long cooking course funded by the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program from Health Canada. "I work out of our office in the hamlet building to keep people interested in pre-natal nutrition and health. I get the ingredients. They bring the fun."

The enjoyment the six women and two babies are having from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays at the Nunavut Arctic College kitchen may keep this program running for a long time to come.

Hanna Jayko (and baby Sharon), Kimberley Jayko, Yolande Aupalu (and baby Johnny), Lynn Kanguaq, Lena Mannilaq, and Lena Pauloosie do not think there can be too many cooks in the kitchen.
