YELLOWKNIFE - Starting this month, transit-riding Yellowknifers will have a quicker route to downtown.

As of Sept. 4, two new express routes were scheduled to start busing passengers directly from Northland trailer park and Frame Lake to downtown.

The Borden/Northland route kicks off at 7:50 a.m., with stops at Borden, Magrum and Norseman, then direct to downtown, stopping at NorthwesTel Tower, A&W and St. Patrick and Sir John high schools.

The Frame Lake South route starts at 7:50 a.m., with stops on Finlayson, Woolgar and Byrne Road, with the same three downtown stops.

The express routes are a two-way street, as afternoon routes back into the suburbs start at the high schools at 3:45 p.m., dropping off in the Borden/Northland or Frame Lake South areas, depending on the route.

Full maps of the new express routes are available in Yellowknifer.

New date for Boffa hearing

A public hearing at City Hall to discuss the closing of a portion of Boffa Drive in Old Town has been rescheduled.

City council will now hold the public hearing Sept. 10 at 7 p.m, during regular council proceedings to allow residents to express their concerns about the closing.

Any person who wants to speak during the public hearing should contact city hall before noon on the day of the meeting.

Plans to close a portion of the road in Old Town came up because it encroaches on a private lot.

Council concerns online

Avid Yellowknife Facebookers now have a new place to vent their concerns about city issues online.

Coun. Paul Falvo recently began a Facebook group to serve as an open forum for community concerns: Yellowknife City Council - Ideas and Issues.

After announcing the group in council, Falvo said it is not a "Paul Falvo love-in," and it is open to all Yellowknifers.

At present, conversation is turned towards the availability (or lack thereof) of land and housing in the capital.

Those interested in the group need to sign up for Facebook (which is free) before checking in. Putting the group's name into Facebook's search bar is a surefire way to find it.
