YELLOWKNIFE - A 26-year-old man reported being punched in the face by his common-law spouse last Friday at around 8 p.m., according to RCMP Const. Roxanne Dreilich.

The incident took place at a downtown residence, Dreilich said. The RCMP arrested the woman. She was charged with assault.

Charges pending for spousal assault

At 9 p.m. Friday, police investigated another complaint of assault from a 47-year-old woman. Dreilich could not say where the assault took place.

She said charges are pending against the woman's spouse.

Fight in the bushes

At midnight Friday, the RCMP investigated a complaint about a man and woman having an altercation on Morrison Drive.

Police located two Lutsel K'e residents in an area where homeless people are known to set up tents.

"It's believed that they might be street persons," said Dreilich.

A 44-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to her face. Her spouse, 54, was arrested and later released on condition that he have no contact with the victim.

Mutual assault

At 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to another assault complaint in the Northland trailer park, where a 49-year-old female reported being assaulted by her 47-year-old common-law spouse.

Dreilich said police discovered that both had been assaulted in the altercation, and both were arrested.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in this case, according to Dreilich. Charges are pending against both.
