YELLOWKNIFE - An investigation is underway after two male youths reported being shot at with a pellet gun from a moving vehicle near Old Town on Aug. 13.

Const. Roxanne Dreilich said the boys were able to give a description of the vehicle and the driver, but patrols were not able to locate them. The boys were not injured despite both being hit in different parts of the head.

"Injury depends on the distance and velocity of the pellets," said Dreilich, adding that it's likely the weapon wasn't fired from a close enough range to injure the youths.

Paint ball attack

A woman living in the Borden Drive area reported that paintballs were being shot at her home while her young children played in the backyard on Aug. 17.

Police conducted foot patrols in the area but were unable to locate a suspect.

Dreilich said that the woman suspected the shots were coming from an alley behind her home, but was unable to pinpoint an exact location.

Young girl arrested for attack

A 14-year-old girl was arrested after an assault on a 36-year-old woman was reported outside the Gold Range bar at around 11 p.m. last Thursday.

Dreilich said police are still investigating the assault. She said they are unsure what the motive was for the attack, or whether the girl and the woman knew each other.

Late night liquor theft

A man will be appearing in court next month after a security video placed him at the scene of a break-and-enter at the downtown liquor store.

Police responded to an alarm at the store at 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 13, and found the front window broken. Dreilich said that the tape shows the subject had entered the store and taken one or two bottles of liquor and left.

Watch where you shoot

In light of last week's pellet gun and paintball shootings, Dreilich said the RCMP wants to remind the public to be careful to use recreational firearms such as pellet guns or paintball guns in the intended manner only.

"People are responsible for the injury they cause," said Dreilich.

She said firing paintball guns at people not engaged in the activity is very dangerous, and cautions people to always use the appropriate safety gear when using recreational firearms.
