YELLOWKNIFE - A 23-year-old man from Yellowknife threw a rock at police officers who were on foot patrol near the downtown liquor store last Saturday. The man was not provoked in any way, said RCMP Const. Roxanne Dreilich.

"Upon attempting to arrest the man, he became combative with police and refused to cooperate," she said.

The accused was taken into custody and "put into (a cell) until either he sobered up or (court) documents were prepared," said Dreilich. He's been charged with one count of assaulting a police officer and one count of resisting arrest.

Woman grabbed by the throat

A 31-year-old woman has been charged with one count of assault and one count of uttering threats stemming from an incident on July 4. The assailant reportedly grabbed a 27-year-old female victim by the throat, said Dreilich. Afterwards, the assailant threatened to further assault the victim.

"She's threatening her that if she goes to a particular place, she's going beat her up, essentially," said Dreilich.

The assailant is scheduled to appear in court on September 18.

Thursday thefts

Two thefts at two separate sites along Highway 3 were reported to RCMP last Thursday.

At 8:30 a.m., the police were informed that sometime the previous night somebody entered a shed at the Department of Transportation maintenance yard. Two jerry cans of gasoline were taken. Dreilich was not aware of any security cameras at the site.

"No suspects, no witnesses, no forensic evidence left at the scene... It's a needle in a haystack kind of thing," said Dreilich.

Another report was received only 15 minutes later Thursday morning of a chainsaw and a skill saw being stolen from a tool shed at the Folk on the Rocks site.
