YELLOWKNIFE - Ontario singer Sarah Harmer is venturing into unknown territory this weekend as she plays at this weekend's Folk on the Rocks festival.

She will not only set foot in Northwest Territories for the first time, but she will be trying out a few new songs on the Northern audience.

"I think it might be the place to crack open a couple of new songs," she said, speaking of a couple of unrecorded tracks she has been working on. "Everybody needs a deadline."

She will also entertain the crowd with some songs from her previous albums.

"I'm mixing it up from the last few records, and I'm playing with a new drummer now," she said.

Besides her own set on Sunday night, Harmer will play with The Bebop Cowboys on Saturday afternoon in the beer garden.

She said she sang on their album, which is probably why the organizers put them together for a set.

Outside of her performances, Harmer is looking forward to exploring what, to her, is new territory.

"We're anticipating that some locals will send us in the right direction," she said.

Harmer and her band plan to stay in Yellowknife for a couple of extra days after the festival is over and will likely fit in some time as tourists.
