TUKTOYAKTUK - It has been more than 30 years since Ida Lucas's grave was covered with gravel at Lucas Point.

On July 9, her son-in-law Adam Emaghok said the family was still exchanging letters with oil company ConocoPhillips, discussing the possibility of a settlement.

ConocoPhillips took over operations in the region from Gulf Oil in the 1970s - including the site of the grave - and the Emaghok family has been demanding compensation from the company. While Adam Emaghok said negotiations are underway, he said the family's lawyers had asked they not discuss the case with media.

ConocoPhillips is the third largest integrated energy company in the U.S. and the fifth largest oil refiner in the world. Its representatives also declined to comment on the case.
