YELLOWKNIFE - Two of three performances this weekend for Bella Dance Academy's year-end show are already sold out.

Dancers and instructors have been working together for months towards their production of Peter Pan, into which the school incorporates several styles of dance.

In November, the instructors at the dance school held auditions for the nine leading roles.

These include main characters in the story such as Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell. Lina Ball, one of the instructors, said the decision was very difficult.

"There were a lot of good dancers and a lot of good acting so it was hard to choose for the main role," she said.

Aside from the handful of main roles, there were plenty of spaces available for other dancers.

The year-end show invites all of the academy's dancers from age three to 18 to participate, and Ball said she believes no one is missing out this time around, with about 200 dancers taking part.

Ball said the dancers of different ages work very well together, and said after a few rehearsals this week, they should be set to perform this weekend.

"They're all ready and excited," she said.

The academy changed things up a little this year to make the year-end show more exciting.

"I know everyone's really excited about the show this year because we've done it a little different... and we've also kept most of the choreography a secret from the parents so there's a little bit of excitement that way also," said Ball.

She said the reason she wanted to keep the choreography a secret was to add an extra "wow factor" to the show for the parents, rather than perform something the parents have seen week after week during rehearsals.

The show starts with a sold out show at Northern Arts and Cultural Centre on Friday at 7 p.m.

A second show will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m., and the final performance will be to a full house that same night at 7 p.m.
