Students are the big winners

YELLOWKNIFE - The band played, parents cheered and lots of pictures were taken - all the marks of a successful high school awards night.

St. Patrick high school hosted their Recognition and Achievement Evening, where all of the students' end-of- year awards were handed out. Kids were recognized for their hard work, good character and unique skills.

Graduate Laura Radicchi and Grade 11 student Peter Boggis made several trips up to the podium, and Yellowknifer's own South of 20 correspondent Megan Welsh, was probably the student who needed the biggest bag in which to carry her awards home, winning at least eight awards and an honor roll medallion.

Radicchi was honoured with the Unsung Hero award, for a student who is hardworking without seeking their own recognition, and the Achievement Award, for a student who has striven extra hard for their achievements, went to Adrian Gerghe.

There was a beautiful glass Inukshuk trophy handed out for the Spirit of Christ Award, which went to Jeffrey Lindaya for exemplifying the Yellowknife Catholic School District's mission statement.

Many other students also got to take home a plaque, trophy or medal, and there was a photographer on hand to take snapshots of all the awards for parents who weren't up to the task.
