HAY RIVER - The NWT Chamber of Commerce's annual business meeting ran into a snag last week and had to be cancelled.
"We, just right at the last minute, found out that we did not give a full 28 days notification," said Sean MacGillivray, NWT chamber president.
The 28 days notice to all members is a requirement of the chamber's own bylaws, said MacGillivray.
A chamber member brought it up, he said, adding any resolutions voted on at the meeting would not be binding if the advanced-notice bylaw was not followed.
"It was somebody just making sure that things went smoothly," he said.
The meeting is usually just an hour long, he said. It's used to vote on resolutions and elect a new board.
Two resolutions were up to be discussed - one requesting that the rules be changed so that member notification can be done by email instead of only by first-class mail, as is the case now. The meeting is being rescheduled for Yellowknife, according to MacGillivray. This time the group plans to be more careful.
"We'll send out notification shortly and (the meeting) will be 28 days after that," he said.
