YELLOWKNIFE - Yellowknife gift shops and florists are ready for this Sunday's Mother's Day rush.

On any other day its business as usual for Marie Chenard, manager of Flowers by Manuela, however, on Wednesday morning, she was busy preparing flowers and arrangements before customers rushed in to make last minute orders.

"Mother's Day is the busiest time of the year for florists," said Chenard. "We had to order quite a bit more stock."

The most popular flower is the carnation, said Chenard.

Shoppers looking for the right gift, browsed through special vases, little grow your own tree kits, and chocolate boxes.

Kerry Yamkowy at Sasha's Jewellery Store is also enthused about Mother's Day.

According to Yamkowy, it generates more business and is more popular then Valentines Day.

The most popular gift for Mother's Day this year is the small Canadian diamond, said Yamkowy.

Charmaine Broadhead, said that she will likely make her mother breakfast in bed and give her a foot massage. As for Eric Farquhar, he is still trying to decide whether to buy his mother earrings or a painting.
