Police Briefs
Victim won't talk

Northern News Services
Friday, May 11, 2007

YELLOWKNIFE - The victim of a May 5 assault is keeping mum about the incident, but a witness provided police with details.

The witness, a man on crutches, could do nothing but watch as a 57-year-old woman was punched, kicked and had her hair pulled by a 55-year-old man in her Con Road apartment. RCMP Constable Roxanne Dreilich said the woman was drunk at the time. When the RCMP returned later that day to get a statement, the victim "strongly indicated she didn't want to give a statement."

She also did not seek medical attention.

Dreilich said the victim and her assailant know each other. The man will appear in court on July 5.

Girlfriend held against wishes

A 21-year-old man is awaiting charges after his 19-year-old girlfriend was confined and assaulted at the couple's 52 Street apartment. Constable Roxanne Dreilich defined forcible confinement as "not allowing someone to leave where they are by force."

After the woman was confined on April 4, she was treated at Stanton Territorial Hospital for undisclosed injuries.

On April 30th, the woman was again assaulted and bruised on the right side of her face.

Domestic squabble

A dispute between common law partners at their residence on Range Lake Road turned violent on May 1.

The couple was arguing about childcare when the 24-year-old man grabbed the woman, 29, bruising both her arms.

The woman reported the assault to the RCMP and charges against the man are pending.

Sexual offender knew victim's father

A 57-year-old male is being charged with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman. The woman knew the man as an associate of her father.

Details of the assault are not being disclosed in order to protect the victim's identity.
