YELLOWKNIFE - Airline employees found a Ziploc bag of marijuana in a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken being sent to Lutsel K'e last Friday.

A man dropped off the bucket at a charter airline early in the afternoon on April 6. Employees of the airline thought it suspicious, as the person who dropped it off was acting nervous.

When the airline employees started asking questions, the man became so nervous he left without leaving any information, or the destination of the bucket of chicken.

"There's no way to locate the owner of the chicken," said RCMP Const. Roxanne Dreilich.

Employees found the bag in the bucket and contacted the RCMP. It was seized for destruction.

"The marijuana, not the chicken," clarified Dreilich.

Suspects sought in sexual assaults

Police are investigating two reports of sexual assault at two downtown hotels.

On April 4, a female guest at the Discovery Inn on April 4, had been drinking at the Raven Pub. She woke up to find herself at the hotel in a room that wasn't hers and believed she had been sexually assaulted.

She contacted police on April 5, but could not provide any information on the assailant.

RCMP are still investigating.

On April 8 RCMP received a report from a 22-year-old woman at Capital Suites who said she had been partying with a group of people. She fell asleep and woke up undressed in a room. While she said she saw a man leaving the room, she could not identify him. Police are still investigating.

Stolen bike recovered

A 14-year-old boy faces a charge of robbery after he took a bicycle from another boy.

According to police, a boy riding along Range Lake Road was confronted by an older youth and the bike was taken.

The young bike rider, however, knew the suspect by his first name and reported him to the police.

Police were able to find a suspect and recover the bike.

Man gives false name in court

A charge of perjury is pending against a 26-year-old man.

The man testified in court on April 4 under a false name to secure the release of a young offender.

As the man was testifying, a RCMP member sitting in the gallery recognized the man testifying and knew the man had given a false name to the court. The officer then informed the court.

"They were trying to attest they were fine, upstanding citizens who could take care of the man if he were released," said Const. Dreilich. "It didn't work."

Autistic boy safe and sound

A good samaritan who found a six-year old boy walking alone on Old Airport Road on April 7 at 9:30 a.m. was puzzled when the boy would not answer questions.

The passerby asked who he was, but the boy would not speak, so the passerby called the RCMP.

Before police arrived, the child's caregivers found the boy.

"They were frantically looking for him," said Dreilich.

The caregivers explained that the boy was autistic, which is why he would not speak with the stranger.

No charges will be laid.
