YELLOWKNIFE - A man was found locked in the lobby of the Post Office on Franklin Avenue on March 19.

The man had gone inside just before 7 p.m. when the doors automatically lock for the evening.

Once inside, he realized he couldn't get out as the doors had locked behind him. He signaled a passerby who contacted the police. The police called building management who came to unlock the door and free the man.

Woman eats evidence

A manager at the downtown Reddi Mart convenience store reported an incident of shoplifting.

A 43-year-old woman grabbed a sandwich, took it outside and ate it. She was caught by the manager, and readily admitted that she took, and ate, the sandwich. No charges will be laid.

Necklace stolen in street scuffle

A 56-year-old male reported a robbery on March 23.

The man was walking in front of the Gold Range around 2 a.m. when two unidentified males threatened to fight him on the street.

One reached over and pulled two necklaces off of the man. One was recovered in the snow on the scene, according to police reports.

Stolen truck didn't go far

A truck, reported stolen from Dettah at 8 a.m. March 21, was recovered just over an hour later in downtown Yellowknife.

A 37-year-old man was charged with a number of offences, by municipal enforcement.

Municipal officers noticed the intoxicated driver and pulled him over. They called RCMP for support, who ran the licence plate and noticed that the car had been reported stolen that morning. The man is now facing charges for drunk driving and for stealing the vehicle.

Gun left on front seat of vehicle

The RCMP are looking to lay charges for unsafe storage of a firearm, but don't know who those charges should be laid against. A passerby found a vehicle abandoned and stuck in the sandpits on March 16. The person looked inside to see a .22-calibre rifle sitting on the front seat.

The individual immediately called the RCMP, who are waiting to contact the registered owner of the vehicle.

Drug tip turns out to be false

Police stopped and searched a vehicle on 51st Avenue on March 21 after an anonymous caller tipped off the police to possible possession of drugs.

The caller told police that he or she observed a drug deal between two vehicles.

The police pulled over the vehicle and arrested four of the passengers based on the information from the call.

The RCMP police dog checked the vehicle, but no drugs were found. Three of the individuals were released, but one was kept in custody as he was found to be in breach of probation.

Charges are pending.
