YELLOWKNIFE - RCMP have released a sketch of a man they believe may be responsible for a beating that left a Yellowknife man unconscious and bleeding on a sidewalk two weeks ago.

The 35-year-old victim was found lying bleeding from his ears and mouth outside the Red Apple Restaurant on Jan. 27 at about 2 a.m.

Police declined to provide his name at the request of the man's family.

Witnesses told RCMP that prior to the assault, the victim had been involved in an "altercation" with the man depicted in the drawing. They also reported that the incident took place on the dance floor of the White Fox bar on Franklin Ave., according to RCMP.

"It sounded like bravado going back and forth," said Const. Roxanne Dreilich, of the altercation.

"They were cursing and swearing," she said. "People were holding them back so there was no actual contact."

The victim and the other man were ejected from the bar by bouncers immediately after the incident, according to Const. Roxanne Dreilich.

About a half-an-hour later the victim was found unconscious on the street.

Witnesses at the White Fox that evening gave descriptions of the unknown man to the RCMP.

He is described as a Caucasian male with a fair complexion. He appeared to be in his late 20s, and about 5'7'' with a small to medium build. His hair was described as dirty blonde, wispy, and thinning.

He is said to have been wearing a black baseball cap with cream-coloured writing on it, blue jeans, and a black and yellow snowmobile jacket.

The victim is still in a coma in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. He was medevaced there suffering from "severe head trauma," according to RCMP.

RCMP are asking that anyone with information on this unknown man come forward.
