ARCTIC RED RIVER - A Tsiigehtchic man has been charged in connection with the shooting of a power line, which caused a town-wide blackout New Year's Eve.

Sgt. Merle Carpenter of the Fort McPherson RCMP said John Kendo Jr., 38, will face charges of mischief under $5,000, unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless use of a firearm.

In addition to these charges, The NWT Power Corp. has demanded Kendo pay the entire cost of repairs, which they say amounts to $2,360.72. If found guilty on all three charges, Kendo could face an additional fine or possibly even imprisonment.

He is scheduled to appear in McPherson's Territorial Court on Feb. 28, and could not be reached for comment.
