Iqaluit (Jan 08/07) - Three men are dead and two other adults wounded in a Saturday morning shooting in Cambridge Bay.

Dead are Keith Atatahak, 28, Kevin Komasuit, 21 and Dean Costa, 29.

RCMP arrested one man and were questioning him. Charges had yet to be filed late Saturday. It wasn't known if the man in custody was arrested at the crime scene.

The victims and the alleged shooter knew each other, RCMP Cpl. Randy Slawson said. "I think everybody was familiar with one another," he said.

The wounded man and woman have been airlifted to Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife. Slawson said the man was shot in the elbow, and the woman was also struck in the arm, but he didn't know the severity of their injuries.

He added that major crime units from Iqaluit and Edmonton were en route to investigate. A forensics team from Edmonton was also dispatched.

The shooting, which occurred between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., started inside a residence but ended outside, Slawson said.

What spurred the violence was still in question as of Saturday, he said.

"That's something that will come out in the course of the investigation. Right now I don't even know what led to this," he said.

The investigation could take a week, Slawson said.
