Yellowknife (Jan 03/07) - The last time he visited his school he promised to come back when he was famous.

"We all sort of laughed," said Mieke Cameron, principal of Sir John Franklin high school.

And now Dustin Milligan, a former Falcon, has flown the nest and become an actor in film and television.

Milligan graduated from high school just over three years ago, and he came back for a visit last month with the promise of cash for other aspiring actors.

The $1,000 scholarship is called the "Enough talk, hurry up and do it already Arts Scholarship," and will be awarded to one Sir John Franklin student a year.

It's geared towards students who have been accepted into post-secondary studies for dramatic arts, but students studying film or writing will also be eligible if enough drama students don't apply.

Milligan said he hopes it will encourage students interested in those fields.

"I was trying to think of different ways I could help," Milligan said.

Following the end of his TV show, Runaway, Milligan said he was left with some extra cash in his pocket.

"I want to be encouraging other students who are in the same position (I was)," Milligan said.

He said it can be intimidating setting out on a road to a career that isn't math or science related.

The scholarship requires a 500-word letter of application, a letter of recommendation from a teacher and a portfolio that highlights dramatic arts.

Students applying could have their application reviewed by Milligan himself.

"It's 1,000 bucks, come on, apply for it," he said.
