Cambridge Bay (Jan 15/07) - The man accused of shooting five people in Cambridge Bay will wait until February for his first court appearance.

Christopher Raymond Bishop faces three counts of murder and two of attempted murder in connection with a Jan. 6 shooting.

The accused's lawyer, Chris Debicki, said Bishop waived his right to a bail hearing. Bishop did not appear in court Friday.

"He didn't want to come in today," Debicki said. Bishop is being kept in custody at the Baffin Correctional Centre until his next scheduled court appearance Feb. 6.

Bishop was arrested Jan. 6 after a hail of gunfire killed Keith Atatahak, Dean Costa and Kevin Komaksiut, all in their twenties.

Atatahak's wife and brother were both shot in the arm. The two were treated in hospital and released.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the dead are now in Toronto where they were to undergo autopsies last week, said RCMP Cpl. Randy Slawson.

It could take a month for investigators to get the results back.

"Given the fact that it's a homicide I'm sure it will be given a priority," he said.

Major crimes units from Edmonton and Iqaluit remained in the community as of late last week.
