Thebacha/Fort Smith (Dec 22/06) - A large quantity of illegal drugs heading to Fort Smith has been intercepted by police.

A little over a kilogram of marijuana and about 125 grams of crack cocaine were seized on the evening of Dec. 19.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, the vehicle allegedly carrying the drugs was stopped by police on Highway 5, about 3040 km west of Fort Smith.

The drugs have an approximate street value of $36,000.

"It's a large seizure for a community of this size," said Const. Dale Stewart.

Two adults and one youth have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The adults have been identified by police as Justin Bourque, 20, and Marcie MacDonald, 27, both of Fort Smith.

The youth cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Bourque and MacDonald are scheduled to appear in Fort Smith Territorial Court on Jan. 22 to enter pleas.
