Five days of freedom

Yellowknife (Dec 20/06) - Bobby Kaotalok, 21, was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering last week after five short days of freedom.

RCMP attended an alarm call at Tli Cho Logistics on Borden Drive early last Friday morning. They found a man trying to hide underneath a counter inside the building.

They found items on him stolen from the business, including cash and a chequebook, as well as items from the Northern Tykes Daycare Centre office, which had been broken into earlier that night.

Kaotalok had been in jail since July facing six charges of break-and-enter, and was found guilty on the charges in October. Kaotalok was released from custody five days before his latest arrest.

Residential thefts

Four different houses were broken into last week. All the incidents are under investigation, but police said they don't appear to be related. "There doesn't seem to be a real pattern," said Const. Roxanne Dreilich.

Various items were missing from the houses, including a Playstation console, a black bear rug, a fur coat and a bottle of olive oil.

A case of sudden death

RCMP were called during the night of Dec. 10 after a 53-year-old man died without apparent cause.

"There didn't appear to be anything suspicious at the scene," said Const. Dreilich. The man was visiting from Saskatchewan and Const. Dreilich said that, according to his wife, he had suffered from high blood pressure.

The man's boarding house roommate reported the death. An autopsy will be performed.

Snowmobile thefts continue

Seven more snowmobiles were reported stolen this week.

Two 14-year-old suspects were caught trying to steal one of the machines, and were given a warning by RCMP.

So far, all apprehended snowmobile thieves have been youth, according to Const. Dreilich.
