Cape Dorset (Nov 06/06) - In a bust that RCMP are calling "one of the largest ever seized from a Nunavut community," Iqaluit RCMP have headed off a shipment of booze headed for Cape Dorset.

The V Division Drug Unit seized 69 375ml bottles and six 1.75 litre vodka bottles at the Iqaluit airport on Oct. 27.

The total was just over 36 litres of booze.

"We were able to do this due to community assistance," said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Randy Slawson.

No charges have been laid as of press deadline, and the investigation was continuing.

"This amount of liquor entering a controlled community at one time may have led to a very busy weekend for the local RCMP members," said Const. Peter Lambros of V Division.
