Youth-oriented MLA-to-be

Hall Beach (Oct 23/06) - Betsy Ulluapak is happy to be travelling from Hall Beach to Iqaluit for Youth Parliament, and it isn't just for the shopping.

The self-admitted "shop-a-holic" plans to pick up some new clothes while in Nunavut's capital city Nov. 6-10, but she has other goals.

"If I was the MLA, I'd build more buildings. A youth centre, a hockey arena, one building where kids can do things. There is a really huge one in Whitehorse, and I like that one," said Ulluapak.

Speaking at the Youth Parliament will give the 15-year-old a chance to practice her public speaking, an opportunity she welcomes.

"Speaking in front of people, that will be the biggest thing," said Ulluapak.

Soccer is important to the Grade 10 student from Arnaqjuaq School."I'm joining the soccer tournament in Iqaluit. I play goalie. At home, we play three-on-three, girls-versus-girls, to practice," said Ulluapak.

When she isn't in the gym playing soccer, she enjoys "driving around town on my four-wheeler and hanging out with my friends."
