More knife play

Yellowknife (Oct 18/06) - Police are investigating an assault with a weapon that occurred behind Raven's Pub on the weekend.

"The information we received was from a third party. The victim is evading police but it is still being pursued due to the serious nature of the incident," said Const. Roxanne Dreilich.

Five residential break and enters were also reported. Police do not believe they are related. One incident is still under investigation. In this case an X-Box game console was stolen from a home in the Frame Lake area.

Reports, reports, reports

Yellowknife RCMP received four reports of drug-related offenses, one report of a domestic dispute and two reports of harassing telephone calls. No charges have been laid.

There was also a report of careless use of a firearm in a parking lot at Bigelow Crescent, but when police responded they found several youths playing with a toy gun.

As well, a report of counterfeit money being passed at a local retailer turned out to be unfounded.

A bad ride?

The weekend merrymaking also provided for one report of an indecent act. According to police, a woman reported getting into the wrong vehicle, in which the male driver allegedly started fondling himself at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

No charges have been laid in the incident.

Be nice to your pets

A dog was removed from a Northland residence after neighbours reported a man hitting a dog with a pipe. An investigation into the incident is continuing and charges are pending, said police.

Dining, dashing, riding, fleeing

After failing to pay for a coffee, a female fled a local eatery, got into a taxi and then dashed off without paying her fare. Police said they are not following up as the taxi driver decided not to pursue the matter.

Liquor and mayhem

During the past week police had to hand out 80 alcohol-related citations. In all, there were 24 violations of the liquor act - 30 of 33 disturbing the peace instances were alcohol related, as were as 26 of 32 mischief charges.
